I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I was raised in the Christian Reformed Church. I attended Calvin College, where I discovered a passion for Biblical and theological studies, which led me to seminary and ultimately to ordination in 2013. Since then, I have served several churches in Central New Jersey. I have found that I love teaching from Scripture and leading worship. It is a joy and honor to walk alongside people as they explore their faith, ask big questions, and deepen their connection with God.
I am passionate about cultivating a church that reflects the wideness of God’s welcome and love. I affirm the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in the life of the church and believe that their presence and gifts are essential for our life together as the body of Christ. I am honored to have a role in helping historic congregations listen for the Spirit’s leading in a rapidly changing world as we work together to discover new ways to embody God’s hospitality, justice, and hope. I believe the church can be a place of deep healing and joyful belonging for all who seek it.
I am blessed to share life with my wife, Jamie, and our two wonderful children. We have a dog and two cats who bring joy and fun into our lives. I love experimenting with visual arts, including photography and I dabble in raising bonsai trees. In my free time I love being outside, taking hikes, walking along streams and canals, and otherwise enjoying God’s creation.
