As I mentioned in yesterday’s Sanitizer, I will write a little more about Psalm 24. Yesterday we recalled that the earth belongs to God. The world is his and all people are accountable to him.

The earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein;
2 for he has founded it upon the seas,
and established it upon the rivers. (RSV)
Today we move to the second verse. God has established the world on the seas and rivers. We need to answer the question, “Who can do that?” God and God alone.

Having just come off an election in our country we can ask, “Can the democrats establish the world on the seas? Can the republicans found it up on the rivers?”

Nope.

Only God has that power. The power to create, uphold and sustain belongs to God alone.

When we need help, who can help? God alone has the power to make things right and save us.

Let us pray. “Almighty God, help us to remember that there is nowhere else we can go for rescue. You and you alone can save us. Help us to turn to you to be healed, restored, sustained and made new. You are our all in all in Jesus Christ. Thank you.”

1 Corinthians 3:11 (RSV “For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
